Sorting the Words Out…

Sorting the Words Out…

As D-Day (November 1, 2011) approaches, I am focussing on gathering myself together.

I feel like an athlete, an explorer and as if I am about to give birth, all at the same time. Tense, not yet warmed-up, expectant…

Being a disciplined and planned person, my first task has been to make room in my (pretty busy) daily schedule for the time-consuming task of churning out 1,700+ words, everyday.

Although I do most of my personal work in the evening, which writing this novel is, I am clearing time in my November schedule to write – even during the day, if necessary. I am streamlining my usual responsibilities and am trying to keep November free of all other ‘To Do‘s’. *Fingers crossed that I succeed.*

This daily post is helping me establish the habit of writing a whole bunch of words that no one is paying for, a habit that I had grown out of. Also, I had not been doing much by way of creative writing, except a few poems over the years, some articles and my own personal diary.

I will be timing approximately how long it takes me to take to write my daily quota words next week, by blogging these many words everyday. A task which fills me with awe even as I write this.

I am also trying to loosen up. Literally – in a literary sense. To try out new ways of expressing myself. Observe and break out of any cliché conditioning that I might be unknowingly harbouring, such as don’t end the sentence on a preposition.

I am mentally preparing myself to start and finish an entire novel within a month by creating a plot and a storyline. By examining possible characters and characterization, possible opening lines, possible endings…will be blogging about it here in the following days.

I am pretty certain that I know what my novel is titled. It is going to be one of three titles that I have been considering for a while. I would like to go with the most contemporary and Zeitgeist of among the three options.

I am going to write out a synopsis of my novel now…
